Wednesday Workshop
13th August 2009

At our Wednesday workshop I brought my chinese juniper for it's next phase.
Bending of the trunk into a more pleasing and usable position.

The trunk was split with branch splitters, and then with a keyhole saw the gap was widened and packed with damp tissue .
Then self amalgamating rubber tape was tightly wrapped around the trunk and the area was wired using 5mm wire.

With all hand to the deck and the use of a bending bar, guy wires and a lot of grunting, slowly with a few rests for the tree and participants, the trunk was rotated approx 90 degrees vertically and the foliage mass moved by another guy wire, about 15 degrees forwards.

With no signs of cracking or breaks, the process appears to have worked very well.

I'll leave it now to heal, rest and hopefully set.
Next year I plan to rotate the straight upright into a more pleasing position.

March 2008

May 2008.
After a trim.

May 2009. Reduced further and blocked carved

August 2009 After the bend.
Front and back.

Bob Hill sketched a few options.

My prefered option.

With a new front, branch removal and re-angle.

Once the moved trunk is set and with the branches wired, we see a good outcome for this little tree.
