The fine bark and trunk.
Colin cuts off the branches not needed for the future bonsai.
At this stage the very minimum of work on the tree is attempted.
Once the tree has had a seasons or two in the pot, further
styling / carving can be carried out.

With the elm now reduced, Colin will wait until winter 2009 / spring 2010 before starting the next phase of refinement.
